I don’t listen to the Beastie Boys honestly. But it is too ridiculous that some white guy who made “hip-hop” died and everybody is coming out of the wood works acting like he was the only good thing about a genre of music made for black people by black people.

As if there aren’t black male rappers right now in the game that bring positivity to women. I guess they don’t exist. But a white man starts rapping and suddenly the white woman says “the music I loved loved me back” or whatever.

I think it’s because black men can’t ever be loving and respectful in the eyes of white supremacy. The whole point of white supremacy is to strip POC of their humanity. That does specifically to black men by absolving them of the possibility of being gentle and kind and loving… especially not to women.

White people love to front and act like black men are the worse (sexually perverse, violent, uncouth) and that black women “like” it I guess or enable it or don’t care because we’re “strong”.

Obviously, the black community deals with sexism and patriarchy. But if you listened to whites, the situation becomes totally misrepresented. And one way to uphold this misrepresentation is in how white feminists talk about rap music.

I can tell you right now, as somebody who loves trap music and ratchet music, that I listen to some sexist stuff. But you have to be kidding me if you’re gonna say folks who stay in white music land don’t.

If anything, T. Swift and all that stuff is the same. It’s internalized misogyny. Why is that upgraded over sexism? Both send “negative” messages to women, do they not?

And I feel like white women act brand new in the sense that pretty much all of the white male music I’ve heard engages in benevolent sexism. But that’s cool I guess. But twerking (which some women like to do & I wish I could do to be real) is oh so horrible.

It’s a double-standard. Pretty much a white man can say whatever he wants. They *may*cut the line at him saying he wants to murder a woman (like Eminem) but a black man has women dancing up in his video or says the word “bitch” or “hoe” is the worst thing ever.

And I don’t know why white women think this is any good for them. These double-standards are good for no one. They’re supporting a society where white men can do whatever they want (and that includes to white women) and maybe not even get much of a consequence. Of course, there is more likely to be justice if it’s a crime against a white woman. But even then, oftentimes white men are not held accountable for their actions.

Why? Because they’re pure and angelic just like white women claim to be. They want to over hype the problems in the black community while glossing over their own.

Good look.

“When we published Naomi Schaefer Riley’s blog posting on Brainstorm last week (“The Most Persuasive Case for Eliminating Black Studies? Just Read the Dissertations”), several thousand of you spoke out in outrage and disappointment that The Chronicle had published an article that did not conform to the journalistic standards and civil tone that you expect from us.

We’ve heard you, and we have taken to heart what you said.

We now agree that Ms. Riley’s blog posting did not meet The Chronicle’s basic editorial standards for reporting and fairness in opinion articles. As a result, we have asked Ms. Riley to leave the Brainstorm blog.”

“There’s been a lot of talk these last couple of weeks about “hipster racism” or “ironic racism”—or, as I like to call it, racism. It’s, you know, introducing your black friend as “my black friend”—as a joke!!!—to show everybody how totally not preoccupied you are with your black friend’s blackness. It’s the gentler, more clueless, and more insidious cousin of a hick in a hood; the domain of educated, middle-class white people (like me—to be clear, I am one of those) who believe that not wanting to be racist makes it okay for them to be totally racist. “But I went to college — I can’t be racist!” Turns out, you can.”

Popular conservative columnist and National Review writer John Derbyshire topped all of his previous racist screeds (and sexistrants) today by posting a long breakdown of all of the important lessons he has taught his children about race — and he’s outdone his own racism with this one.

Derbyshire wrote the column in the third person, as a list of lessons to his kids about race. The lessons are his response to “the talk” that black parents have with their children — conversations they are forced to have because of realpersistent racism. After spending a few minutes bemoaning that he can’t say a racist slur (“What you must call ‘the ‘N’ word’ is used freely among blacks but is taboo to nonblacks”) and opining on the hostility he believes all black people feel toward white people like himself (though he says he isn’t white before calling himself white several times), he cuts to the heart of his lessons for his children:

(10a)Avoid concentrations of blacks not all known to you personally.

(10b)Stay out of heavily black neighborhoods.

(10c)If planning a trip to a beach or amusement park at some date, find out whether it is likely to be swamped with blacks on that date(neglect of that one got me the closest I have ever gotten to death by gunshot).

(10d)Do not attend events likely to draw a lot of blacks.

(10e)If you are at some public event at which the number of blacks suddenly swells, leave as quickly as possible.

(10f)Do not settle in a district or municipality run by black politicians.

(10g) Before voting for a black politician, scrutinize his/her character much more carefully than you would a white.

(10h)Do not act the Good Samaritan to blacks in apparent distress, e.g., on the highway.

(10i)If accosted by a strange black in the street, smile and say something polite but keep moving.

(11) The mean intelligence of blacks is much lower than for whites. The least intelligent ten percent of whites have IQs below 81; forty percent of blacks have IQs that low. Only one black in six is more intelligent than the average white; five whites out of six are more intelligent than the average black. These differences show in every test of general cognitive ability that anyone, of any race or nationality, has yet been able to devise. They are reflected in countless everyday situations. “Life is an IQ test.”

I don’t understand, are these his tips to his kids on how to not murder and/or frame people?

My eyes are bugging out of my head right now. I… everything he says only raises further questions. How exactly does one know when their local beach or amusement park will be “swamped with blacks”? Do all the racists run a joint Google calendar where they put out warnings about Black people’s plans? I don’t even know, guys, I’m having a serious “I don’t want to be on this planet anymore” response to this.

Covert racism is SO pre-Obama guise.

dansolomon:

This story has been spreading around on conservative blogs and message boards for the past week or so, as the Trayvon Martin story’s gathered momentum. The short version of it is that a 13 year old boy in Kansas City was attacked by two black teenagers, set on fire, and told, “That’s what you get, white boy.”

It’s a horrible story and I’ve zero interest in arguing that one is “worse” than the other. Conservative blogs, meanwhile, have been pointing to the fact that Trayvon Martin’s story has been the subject of a lot of interest and attention, while Allen Coon’s has not, as proof that “it doesn’t matter” because the victim was white.

Here is exactly why that’s absurd: Because it does matter that Allen Coon was attacked. It matters so much that the police immediately responded. They branded it a hate crime. They conducted an investigation, and put out an APB on the attackers. They treated it exactly the way that police treat crimes that matter.

So there’s no need to hold vigils for justice in the case of Allen Coon, because justice has swiftly and readily been sought by the people tasked to seek justice.

The reason people are outraged over Trayvon Martin’s shooting is not, ultimately, because a black teenager was shot. That happens all the time, frankly. What people are outraged about is that the police didn’t seem to treat it as though a crime had occurred. They don’t feel as though justice was sought on behalf of Martin or his family, and that is why they’re outraged. This isn’t about “no child should ever be attacked and society should not rest when it happens,” because we don’t live in a world where that would be practical. It’s about the police, and the prosecutors, in Florida who failed to seek justice in any way that the people observing the case recognize as seeking justice.

Or, in short: Allen Coon’s attack was tragic and wrong, and if the police had responded to Trayvon Martin’s in the same manner that they had responded to Coon’s, this would never have become anything close to a national news story.

this is not even hard

A really great article about the Black experience and casual racism in America.

But there’s a place in the political sphere for direct speech and, in the past few years in the U.S., there has been a chilling effect on a certain kind of direct speech pertaining to rights. The president is wary of being seen as the “angry black man.” People of color, women, and gays — who now have greater access to the centers of influence that ever before — are under pressure to be well-behaved when talking about their struggles. There is an expectation that we can talk about sins but no one must be identified as a sinner: newspapers love to describe words or deeds as “racially charged” even in those cases when it would be more honest to say “racist”; we agree that there is rampant misogyny, but misogynists are nowhere to be found; homophobia is a problem but no one is homophobic. One cumulative effect of this policed language is that when someone dares to point out something as obvious as white privilege, it is seen as unduly provocative. Marginalized voices in America have fewer and fewer avenues to speak plainly about what they suffer; the effect of this enforced civility is that those voices are falsified or blocked entirely from the discourse.

Yep, it’s true—we at the R designated Friday as our Funday, a day where we can get get silly and loose about race and life and love, especially about people we wanna love up on.

This love-up will be known from this point on as The Racialicious Crush Of The Week.

To start us off, our first Crush is none other than porn star (and Tumblrer—soooo NSFW) Keni Styles.

Keni Styles

Here’s a excerpt of an interview he did with former Asian Pop columnist Jeff Yang

Have you had any negative encounters in the porn industry?

Not really. I mean, you have the whole vibe here with people’s misconceptions about Asian guys and sex. “An Asian porn star! Is he a mutant?” There are so many closed-minded people in America. Maybe that’s a massive generalization, but it’s largely true. And even the people who don’t have issues, they listen to what everyone says, and think, “Hey, that must be true.” And then the popular culture, the media, they hype up the same stereotypes.

Stereotypes, as in, “Asian guys have small penises”?

Yeah. That conversation comes up all the time. Frankly, to me it’s not a big deal. If someone says that I’m like, “Did you really think that? Okay. And Asian women’s vaginas are on sideways, too, right? “

There are obviously some unique race issues in porn. The porn world tends to see interracial as solely meaning black and white. I’ll be on set talking with girls about other actors they’ve worked with, and a lot of my buddies are black, and they’ll go, “Oh, I don’t do interracial.”

And I blink, and the director calls, and I’m like, “Uh, okay, so should we get into this scene? You realize this is interracial right now, right?”

“No, it’s not.”

“Well, yes, it is.”

“No, it’s not!”

“Look — are you going to suck my dick or not?”

“Yes, okay, I’ll get right to it.”

People know that Asian and white is interracial, but in porn, the girls don’t see it the same way. There’s a massive, institutionalized racial prejudice in the industry where, for example, girls get paid more to do interracial scenes. And that’s ridiculous. A dick is a dick. But that’s the way it is.

So interracial fetish porn is big business, but that always means black men and white women, black women and white men, and maybe sometimes Asian women and black or white guys — there’s no market for “Asian man, white woman” or “Asian man, black woman”?

There isn’t a niche. The talent pool is too small. There’s me, and there’s a few dudes who work for themselves, who aren’t really available to work. And then there’s Japanese dudes. How could there be an Asian man niche? There aren’t any Asian men working regularly in this business other than me.

But there are a lot of Asian girls, right? And you’ve worked with some of them? I saw that the “Best Couples Scene” you were nominated for was for a movie called “Pure” you did with an actress named Asa Akira, which seems to be based on the classic Japanese film “In the Realm of the Senses.”

Asian girls, oh yes, I love Asian girls. But as for working with them, there’s no difference. People are constantly trying to prompt me to say shit about Asian girls, white girls, which I prefer, who’s better — I just don’t see it as they see it. I don’t see color like that. Asian chicks are Asian chicks, but do I prefer any race over another? No. There are beautiful white girls and beautiful Asian girls. There are butt-ugly white girls and butt-ugly Asian girls. I’d still fuck ‘em all. Is the girl down to fuck or not? That’s all that matters.

Would you say the porn industry is racist?

Put it like this: People who get naked and have intimate sex on camera in front of a crowd of people are generally very open minded. They’re very honest. They’re probably going to tell you show you an outlook on life that’s different from the closed-mindedness of those who follow society’s mold. There’s discrimination, prejudice like anywhere else, but it’s out in the open and people deal with it.

Speaking of dicks…we talked about the whole penis size stereotype before, and about how it’s been a major source of anxiety for some Asian guys. But you seem really blase about penis size, even though it’s so important in the porn industry.

Well, I’m very cautious about talking about this issue, because I think anything you say can be interpreted the wrong way. Here’s the same thing I say every time I’m asked: I’ve never measured my penis. I’ve never been arrogant or vain enough to care to measure it against anything other than a girl’s vagina.

The whole size issue is ridiculous. You don’t fuck someone with your dick, you fuck someone with your whole body, your attitude, your presence. The moment you say, “Oh, my dick is X inches long,” you’ve let society win the battle of thinking it matters. And it just doesn’t. I’m not the biggest there is, and I’m not the smallest, but I’ve never measured my penis against anything than a girl’s vagina. If it fits and she’s happy, I’m happy.

“Dr. Gordon Hodson, a professor of psychology at the university and the study’s lead author, said the finding represented evidence of a vicious cycle: People of low intelligence gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, which stress resistance to change and, in turn, prejudice, he told LiveScience.

Why might less intelligent people be drawn to conservative ideologies? Because such ideologies feature “structure and order” that make it easier to comprehend a complicated world, Dodson said. “Unfortunately, many of these features can also contribute to prejudice,” he added.

Dr. Brian Nosek, a University of Virginia psychologist, echoed those sentiments.

“Reality is complicated and messy,” he told The Huffington Post in an email. “Ideologies get rid of the messiness and impose a simpler solution. So, it may not be surprising that people with less cognitive capacity will be attracted to simplifying ideologies.”

Breakdown of why Shit White Girls say to Black Girls is not racist. I want to buy this man a beer.

Brilliant.

(via whiskeyandcupcakes)

23 years. We finished it, financed it myself, and I figured, you know, I could get prints and ads paid for by the studios, and that they would release it. I showed it to all of them and they said ‘No. we don’t know how to market a movie like this.’ …It’s because it’s an all-black movie. There’s no major white roles in it at all. It’s one of the first all-black action pictures ever made.

Red Tails executive producer GEORGE LUCAS, on why it took more than two decades for his latest film to hit movie theatres, on The Daily Show.

For shame, Hollywood.

(via inothernews) Not surprised…go see it ppl!

(via gintel)

I encourage everyone to go see this movie for this reason alone. If you’re complaining about Tyler Perry movies, and you’re complaining about stereotypical roles for actors of color…… this is something you can put your money behind and feel good.

How much money this film makes in theaters is something that matters, because if it bombs the studios are going to say, “I told you so…”, and that will be their justification for continuing the same pattern of behavior they’ve displayed for the last 30 years.
