I don’t listen to the Beastie Boys honestly. But it is too ridiculous that some white guy who made “hip-hop” died and everybody is coming out of the wood works acting like he was the only good thing about a genre of music made for black people by black people.

As if there aren’t black male rappers right now in the game that bring positivity to women. I guess they don’t exist. But a white man starts rapping and suddenly the white woman says “the music I loved loved me back” or whatever.

I think it’s because black men can’t ever be loving and respectful in the eyes of white supremacy. The whole point of white supremacy is to strip POC of their humanity. That does specifically to black men by absolving them of the possibility of being gentle and kind and loving… especially not to women.

White people love to front and act like black men are the worse (sexually perverse, violent, uncouth) and that black women “like” it I guess or enable it or don’t care because we’re “strong”.

Obviously, the black community deals with sexism and patriarchy. But if you listened to whites, the situation becomes totally misrepresented. And one way to uphold this misrepresentation is in how white feminists talk about rap music.

I can tell you right now, as somebody who loves trap music and ratchet music, that I listen to some sexist stuff. But you have to be kidding me if you’re gonna say folks who stay in white music land don’t.

If anything, T. Swift and all that stuff is the same. It’s internalized misogyny. Why is that upgraded over sexism? Both send “negative” messages to women, do they not?

And I feel like white women act brand new in the sense that pretty much all of the white male music I’ve heard engages in benevolent sexism. But that’s cool I guess. But twerking (which some women like to do & I wish I could do to be real) is oh so horrible.

It’s a double-standard. Pretty much a white man can say whatever he wants. They *may*cut the line at him saying he wants to murder a woman (like Eminem) but a black man has women dancing up in his video or says the word “bitch” or “hoe” is the worst thing ever.

And I don’t know why white women think this is any good for them. These double-standards are good for no one. They’re supporting a society where white men can do whatever they want (and that includes to white women) and maybe not even get much of a consequence. Of course, there is more likely to be justice if it’s a crime against a white woman. But even then, oftentimes white men are not held accountable for their actions.

Why? Because they’re pure and angelic just like white women claim to be. They want to over hype the problems in the black community while glossing over their own.

Good look.

All of this.

There is a dangerous myth going around this country that sexism doesn’t exist anymore, that we have gotten past it and that ‘alarmist’ feminists are an outdated nuisance. Warnings like, ‘Oh, watch out—here comes the feminazi!’ abound in our culture, as if for a woman, entitling yourself to an opinion puts you on par with followers of the Third Reich.

Shit People Say To Feminists

This picture perfectly sums up my problem with feminism.

“I’ve been informed that one of the (Black) women SlutWalk NYC organizers asked the woman to take her placard down. She did. However, not before there were many photographs taken….

Now, my question is why did it take a Black woman organizer to ask her to take it down. What about ALL of the White women captured in this photograph. They didn’t find this sign offensive? Paraphrasing Sojourner Truth “Ain’t I A Woman (too!)?”
ERADICATING RACISM SHOULD NOT BE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF PEOPLE OF COLOR.

How can so many White feminists be absolutely clear about the responsibility of ALL MEN TO END heterosexual violence perpetrated against women; and yet turn a blind eye to THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO END racism.

Is Sisterhood Global? This picture says NO! very loudly and very clearly.”- Aishah Shahidah Simmons

You are not a nigger. You will never be called a nigger. You will never be treated like a nigger. You cannot reclaim a word that was never utilised against you.

So get the fuck out and shut the fuck up.

Oh my god it’s a fucking John Lennon song. Get over yourself. Try giving it a listen, then you’ll see that it’s actually very fucked up that they asked her to take it down. For Christ’s sake, there’s even a little CARTOON OF JOHN LENNON ON THE FUCKING SIGN. Here are the lyrics in case you’re interested:

Woman is the nigger of
the world
Yes she is…think about it
Woman is the nigger of
the world
Think about it…do
something about it

We make her paint her
face and dance
If she won’t be slave ,we
say that she don’t love us
If she’s real, we say she’s
trying to be a man
While putting her down we
pretend that she is above us
Woman is the nigger of
the world…yes she is
If you don’t belive me take a
look to the one you’re with
Woman is the slaves of
the slaves
Ah yeah…better screem
about it
We make her bear and raise
our children
And then we leave her flat for
being a fat old mother hen
We tell her home is the only
place she would be
Then we complain that she’s
too unworldly to be our friend
Woman is the nigger of
the world…yes she is
If you don’t belive me take a
look to the one you’re with
Woman is the slaves of
the slaves
Yeah (think about it)

We insult her everyday on TV
And wonder why she has no
guts or confidence
When she’s young we kill her
will to be free
While telling her not to be so
smart we put her down for being so dumb
Woman is the nigger of
the world…yes she is
If you don’t belive me take a
look to the one you’re with
Woman is the slaves of
the slaves
Yes she is…if you belive me,
you better screem about it.

Repeat:
We make her paint her
face and dance
We make her paint her
face and dance We make her paint her
face and dance

-John Winston Ono FUCKING Lennon

I rest my case.

I KNOW EXACTLY WHERE THE FUCK THE QUOTE HAS COME FROM.

I don’t give a damn what Yoko and John’s intent was with the song. I don’t give a damn that they wrote it that it was to show solidarity with “the struggle.” They didn’t ask any *black women* what they thought of their usage of the word to get their point across about the oppression of women, and they should’ve been the first person asked.

How fucking dare you tell me to get over myself?

Black feminist and Woman of colour have spoken about the offence with the use of the N word within feminist communities, and we are told be quiet because you don’t want to check your white privilege.

NEWSFLASH: YOU ARE NOT BLACK. YOU DO NOT GET TO RECLAIM A WORD THAT WAS NEVER USED TO OPRESS YOU.

You will never have the fucking license to use this word. I literally give two shits about the amount of “black friends” you have, or the fact some members of the black community use this term, or if its a John Lennon song.

IT IS STILL RACISM.

I’M SO SICK OF THIS SHITTY SO CALLED “ALLYS” WHO DEMAND WE BE SILENT BECAUSE THEY DON’T FEEL COMFORTBLE CHECKING THEIR WHITE PRIVLEGE.

YOU KNOW WHAT IS ACTUALLY FUCKED UP? The fact that you refuse to listen to the countless WOC who have told you the problem with this fuckign sign, and casually using racial slurs.

I do not, for example, do not adopt an anti-gay slur. Those kind of words have never been used agaisn’t me to threaten me, to opress me, TO SILENCE ME. I never have to labor underneath their weight.

White women have no relationship with the word nigger. It has NEVER been used agaisn’t them.

The song is fucked up, because if this white women is a nigger of the world, AM I A DOUBLE NIGGER?

Think before you speak. By using a word that has caused pain and harm to a specific group of people of which you are not a part, you are perpetuating the pain and harm to that specific group of people of which you are not a part.

GENDER OPRESSION DOESN’T SUDDENLY EXCLUDE YOUR RACIAL PRIVILEGE.

Whoa, lady. I’ve checked my white privilege MULTIPLE times. As a third year Women’s Studies major, I’ve spent pretty much that entire time doing nothing BUT checking my white privilege. For you to assume that I’m just “some ally” speaks volumes about how vicious you’re being. I know my shit, and I never claimed to be black.

The fact of the matter is that, in our patriarchal white-dominated society, a definition of the word “nigger” has arisen, COMPLETELY SEPARATE FROM ANY RACIAL CONNOTATIONS. When the average person hears that word, they think multiple things, among them: (not always) of African descent, lower-income, uneducated, violent, crime-prone, general “troublemakers”, etc. Minus the racial aspect of it, YOU HAVE EVERY FUCKING PATRIARCH’S DEFINITION OF A FUCKING WOMAN.

Yes, it’s still a racist slur. No, I do not use it in my everyday vocabulary. Does that mean that I’m going to have a fucking shit fit if someone takes artistic license and uses it in a song? FUCK NO.

John Lennon took that term and flipped it. He was using the lens of racism to make clearer the general struggle between women and men. Let’s face it: in the 70’s, who wasn’t fucking acquainted with the notion of racism? It was pretty much the heart of the radical WOC movement. At the same time, however, not everybody was as aware of feminist struggles as they were with issues of racism. So, he took the common term (which was condoned by Bobby fucking Seale, but NO BIG DEAL) and used it to give a light to the uncommon problem.

Honestly, you’re complaining about a man who was being monitored by the FBI for having connections to the Black Panther Party. Have fun with that.

Woah. Did you really just tell someone with a completely valid critique about your bullshit response that you are exempt from critique for it because you are a women’s studies major? Women’s studies doesn’t emphasize race all the time, trust me. And wtf? All black people should be bowing down to John Lennon because he did a few things with the black panthers. Did you just fucking tell black women that, you silly white lady? Are you serious? And you checked your privilege? You actually make me more sick than the real overt racists who use the n word in the way it actually means and they know the way it has always been used. Not these cowardly people like you who hide behind the truth and obscure it will bullshit.

I swear to god, you are fucking ridiculous. You exist in such a privileged world you really know people who say that the n word exists outside of a racial connotation. Talk about disconnect. I really doubt many people think anything but about black people when they hear the n word and just cause you say so doesn’t make it so. Bobby Seale isn’t a black woman and neither is John Lennon. In the 70s everyone knew what the n word was and it wasn’t short term for woman. White women like you will never be the niggers of the world and you can take that arrogant shit somewhere. Really. I am pissed as hell, you really are the ultimate piece of shit I can’t stand when I read shit like this.

WHOOOOOOOOA AND I’M THE RACIST? How many times did you feel the burning desire to call me “white” in that reblog?

If you’re going to complain about racism, then…well…don’t fucking be racist.

And, I’ll quote you, apparently I’m a “silly white lady”. If I called you a “silly black lady”, that would be racist. Why is it that when a white person points out race it’s racist, but when another race points out being white it’s acceptable? Just because I’m white means that I can’t voice my opinions? Oh, I’m sorry. Let me excuse myself from your ladies’ PMS fueled tea party because I’m white and that means that I don’t understand feminism. Because I’m white.

You’re oppressing me as much as the people you complain about are oppressing you.

Really. I am pissed as hell, you really are the ultimate piece of shit I can’t stand when I read shit like your bad grammar.

Eat me.

Miss Representation a Feminism Documentary on women/media

Seriously, take 8 minutes out of your life and watch this whole thing. It’s a good breakdown of why feminism is still so important.

Wow. Just…wow. This is everything that continually NEEDS to be said, but the people who need to hear it probably never will.

you see, there’s so much more that our community needs. we don’t need another slap on the wrist as black women. “women, keep your legs closed” rhetoric is so patriarchal, cissexist, and dated. and frankly, I’m tired of the shaming, and tired of having other folks make demands on my womb. i mean, there was [and still is] slavery, forced sterilization, anti-abortion laws, rape, sterilization of women with disabilities, domestic violence. no one has the right to tell me what kind of body is ok for pro-creation, and what kind of bank account, educational level or house size is worthy of child rearing. let’s talk about radical love instead. i reject the myth that queer families (however they look) are not fit to love and care for children. I reject that idea that a two-parent model is the the only way we as black folks create loving families.
I’ve always understood the word ‘slut’ to mean a woman who freely enjoys her own sexuality in any way she wants to; undisturbed by other people’s wishes for her behavior. Sexual desire originates in her and is directed by her. In that sense it is a word well worth retaining. As a poet, I find it has a rich, raunchy, elemental, down to earth sound, that connects us to something primal, moist, and free.

I truly just want to embrace this word because of this definition, but the way people say it to you. Like spitting acid in your face from their terrible mouths. The vitriol is just…ugh.

it’s beautiful that she said this, but we all know that’s not what it means to the majority of people (a large majority). it’s dangerous. i won’t be using it in public as a label i’ve affixed to myself anytime soon.

The reason racism is a feminist issue is easily explained by the inherent definition of feminism. Feminism is the political theory and practice to free all women: women of color, working-class women, poor women, physically challenged women, lesbians, old women –as well as white economically privileged heterosexual women. Anything less than this is not feminism, but merely female self-aggrandizement.
